ABBY MCKAY

Where’s your hometown? Who are you outside of CrossFit COMO?

Lake Saint Louis, came to Columbia for college and never left.  Registered Nurse at Boone in the recovery room after surgery, wife, dog mom.

When did you first start training at CrossFit COMO?

May 2013 at CrossFit COMO 1.0!

What is your sports & fitness background?

When I was younger I did gymnastics then coached it through highschool. Played volleyball, was a cheerleader, kickboxed and played lacrosse. Played lacrosse one year for MIZZOU.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CrossFit COMO?

I went down a pant size when I first started. I also began to hear about the Paleo lifestyle and tried to eat close to Paleo as possible. I now eat relatively healthy but also enjoy life. I noticy I sleep much better on days I workout and have more energy throughout the day. I also try to mix up my workouts now, especially if I cant get to the box. I try to run, hike with my dog or make up a body weight wod for home.

What’s your favorite CrossFit COMO memory?

really enjoy working out with the variety of age groups we have. Its fun to hear about the college kids and their crazy nights but also about the older parents attending kids basketball games, giving marriage advice, etc. I also had a super fun time last year at the Crossfit Unstoppable competition that about ten of us competed at together. Friends from the gym came to support us with snacks and we all got to know each other a little better that day. “Kim take my shoes off!….Kim put my shoes back on!” hehe Mike

What goal are you currently working towards?

After starting the nutrition challenge, I realized how much crap is out there hidden in everyday common foods we eat. I am trying to eat more natural foods and less processed. Overall I just want to feel good and  be able to carry all my groceries in at once! I also would like to walk on my hands the entire length of the gym, because why not!

Any advice for people just getting started or new to CrossFit?

Have fun! If I am totally sucking at a wod I sometimes just stop and laugh. And then take a deep breath and try again. I also

advise new members to get to know as many people as possible! You learn so much and never know when you need advice about something, a referral, a chiropractor or when there are cheap baseball tickets available for tonight’s game!
