MEET Christie

What brought you to CrossFit?

SWEAT came to State Farm for a brief period of time and I had the opportunity to meet Mike, Lisa, and Chelsea and be introduced to the concepts of CrossFit.  Unfortunately, there were only a couple of sessions, so once those 8 weeks ended I felt lost! I was nervous about joining CrossFit COMO but I knew I wanted more!!

What was your first impression?

TERRIFIED!!! I walked into Foundations and it was packed with people grunting, screaming, and cheering. I remember seeing the clock ticking away, weights being dropped to the ground, and the intense look on everyone’s face. I felt like a scared little girl! I seriously hesitated for a whole minute when I heard Mike say “6 o’clock Foundations class this way.” I was prepared to make a mad dash out the door. I don’t know what I expected but it was definitely not this!


What’s been your biggest accomplishment?

I have had a lot of great WOD accomplishments; doing many things I didn’t know I was capable of – I am grateful for each of those accomplishments. On a personal note, I had been working out at a local gym for many years. I always saw some results, but found I was never quite satisfied. I came out of Foundations the end of February and the changes I have seen in myself I wouldn’t have ever imagined in such a short time. I am stronger and more lean than I have ever been-and I have abs!! 🙂 I find I’m not staring at a scale DAILY to see a number to decide whether or not it is acceptable (yes I was doing this daily)! CrossFit has not only changed my physique but my mindset as well and that is a great feeling!

What are you working on now?

I am still perfecting my form, but I have really started to focus on increasing my weights and speed. I feel myself getting stronger and there is just something exciting about moving up another 10 pounds here and there!

What’s your favorite CrossFit COMO memory?

My favorite memory would be completion of my first full month of WOD’s. My body ached in places I didn’t know existed, but I loved every minute of it (okay maybe that’s a stretch). Looking back at that first month and those that have followed, I am thankful to have survived and lived to tell about it!  The incredibly supportive and encouraging group of 5am-ers & coaches that I have the pleasure of working with and learning from each day is what makes CrossFit so much fun!
