What are you working on now?
Like the majority, I could always use improvement on gymnastics and cardio endurance. I’d love to walk on my hands and get a muscle up. I’m sure all the coaches know I hate running (especially when it’s more than 400m) but at least I’ve gotten faster compared to when I first started. It’s more of a mental thing for cardio, I just need to embrace the pain and suck it up, “get comfortable with the uncomfortable”. Of course, these goals will be easier to achieve carrying less bodyweight but that’s a work in progress. I can do some gymnastics movements but it’d be even better to not have to scale a workout because of one movement.
What’s been your biggest accomplishment?
My biggest accomplishment so far is probably completing Whole30. The challenge made me rethink my relationship with food even though I didn’t get the results you read from other people’s experiences. Some people explore different foods, but I’m pretty set in my ways and unwilling to get out of my comfort zone. It also took quite a bit of mental strength to push through all the things I was missing out on and to stick with it for the 30 days that couldn’t come quick enough. Recovering from workouts was almost impossible without whey protein to help repair my muscles, my sleep quality was poor from the slow-release carbs that kept me up, and all I wanted was pasta, cheese, or some much-needed honey for my tea. It wasn’t like preparing for a big lift that only takes minutes out of my day, it took over my life. Now, I put more thought into what goes in my body by avoiding processed food and added sweeteners when I can (but I’ve been slacking recently).
