What brought you to CrossFit?

I was diagnosed with Poly-cystic Kidney Disease in April and was told that I needed to start working on getting healthier and making my body stronger. I was looking for something that would challenge me and help me learn how to live a better lifestyle. I started with the SWEAT program, it seemed like a great introduction into CrossFit because I had never done a CrossFit class or program before.

What motivates you to continue training at CrossFit COMO?

The results that I have seen. I recently had a check-up with my kidney doctor, and even though my kidney disease is still progressing, my overall health has drastically improved. I have had improvements in my blood pressure, blood sugar, heart health, and stamina. It was an indescribable feeling knowing that my hard work was paying off. Even though I may not always see results on the outside, on the inside I am definitely healthier and happier!

What’s been your biggest accomplishment?

My first accomplishment was completing the SWEAT program, more specifically returning for day 2 😊 I am usually the person that makes plans to work out and then bails. But, with CrossFit, I met a lot of amazing people who have kept me accountable. My next accomplishment came when writing my name on the whiteboard for my first PR. It felt amazing being able to ring the bell and show myself that I am stronger than I thought.

What are you working on now?

Push ups and pull ups. My upper body strength has always needed more work. Push ups especially, I am hoping to be able to do one without using my knees!

What’s your favorite CrossFit COMO memory?

The WOD where we had to do 100 burpees! I was scared I was going to pass out and embarrassed about coming in last. I may have been last, but everyone gathered around me and cheered me on and counted me down through my last 10 burpees. That moment of community support is something I will never forget.
