Ever heard the saying “think outside of the box?”  What about taking it one step further to actually living outside of the box? A box is a contraption, with flat sides and a base and a lid that´s used to hold things in.  The metaphorical box in our lives is our comfort zone.  It´s our safe place where we feel unthreatened.  But just like a box, our comfort zones confine us.  So how do we get outside of the box – how do we challenge ourselves to grow and become better?

I recently watched a cool youtube video by Tim Ferriss, talking about how he tries to challenge himself with something that scares him every single day.  Whether its cold calling a potential client, skateboarding down the street, going up to a random stranger and asking her/him out on a date, whatever it may be – do one thing that scares you everyday.  If you do this, you will slowly start to creep outside of your comfort zone.  The longer you spend outside of this “box,” the more it expands.  Pretty soon, without realizing it, your comfort zone is huge! What used to scare you, no longer does.

Everyday is a new day to try out this experiment.  Everyday you come into CrossFit COMO, you have the opportunity to do something that you might feel unsure about.  One rep max overhead squat? Go for it! 7 minutes of burpees? Just throw yourself in there and try it out.  Introduce yourself to someone you don´t know and ask them how their day was! All of these little things will start to help you step outside of your comfort zone and live outside of the box.
